Aust CH Balinfern Prima Donna (Carla) was the first born of a mating of Hamish, Aust Ch Letchworth Balintore Fern BIS BISS, and Bella, Aust Ch Letchworth Bellezza at Balinfern Collies. She left us for a better place on 12 July 2008. She made a huge impact on Balinfern both by her contribution of two beautiful babies (Ally and Fergus), and by her untimely passing.
She arrived into the world three days early on 27/1/2001 causing great consternation for all the other collies as we were asleep and did not expect Bella to be delivering so early! There was a great panic from the humans and the other dogs, but not from her mum Bella, who handled the whole matter calmly and had everything under control before we even had a chance to realise what had happened! In fact it was Priscilla, Letchworth Watch Me, who woke us finally to make sure we were a part of the action also!
Carla was not shown till 2 June 2001, when at her first outing she won Baby Puppy in Group at the Casino Kennel Club. In her first shows she won Best Baby Puppy in Breed at the Combined QLD CCC Australian Challenge Show on 11 June 2001, under Mr C V Sudarsan (India), then followed this up with Best Baby Puppy in Show at the Queensland Smooth and Rough Collie Club Open Show on 16 June 2001. The day she turned 9 months of age, 27 October 2001, she won Ch Bitch, RUBOB and Puppy in Group at the Alstonville Agricultural Society, and then a week later was awarded Best of Breed at the Tweed River Agricultural Society beating all before her including her father Hamish, a Best in Show and multiple Best in Group winner!
Carla taught us yet again, that while all collies share a very similar temperament, each are individuals! They each have their very own personality, something that makes each a wonderful addition to our collie family! Carla was her mother in many ways, while affectionate, she was strong willed, very intelligent, and additionally very secure in her own company. She loved to run free here at Balinfern. Carla was rarely shown and that was just fine with her as she was never fond of all the fuss of dog shows! We can identify with that!
Carla had her first litter on 14 May 2007, producing our new kids the beautiful girl Ally and boy Fergus, with her mate Angus (Aust CH Balinfern Divine Gift).
